We believe that all communities deserve to have basic needs met and opportunities to thrive.

The Laird Norton Family Foundation supports projects that address clean water and sanitation – through access, technology, and policy – as a pivotal first step to improving health, education, economic welfare and quality of life in developing countries.

Our Global Fundamentals grantmaking is guided by three core strategies:

            • Developing water and sanitation resources, such as wells and springs
            • Supporting point-of-use and treatment technology (filters, etc.)
            • Educating people on the impacts of government policy and policy proposals, enforcing laws, and increasing awareness of water and sanitation issues

In addition to our support for strong water and sanitation projects on the ground in Asia, Africa, and Central America, we provide capacity building grants to foster collaboration and the sharing of best practices in the field. We are interested in supporting innovative projects with strategies for long-term sustainability.

We primarily award grants to U.S.-based organizations with a strong international presence, with the majority of funded projects located in Africa, Central America, and Asia.
